CHAKWAL: Chakwal is the capital and important city of Chakwal District, Punjab province, Pakistan. It is situated 90 kilometers south-east of the federal capital, Islamabad.
The non-Muslim minorities of this city departed during the time of independence of Pakistan in 1947 but the city is still in their heart and mind and had never forgotten it.
In the month of April 2009, a terrorist attack on the mosque killed more than 30 people.
Geography
The landscape of the city features the canyons in Thirchak-Mahal. There are man-made and natural lakes around the city in neighboring communities.
Administration
In addition to being the district headquarters, the city is also the administrative hub of Chakwal tehsil (a subdivision of the district). The Chakawal District is categorized into 5 Tehsils, namely, Kalarkahar, Chohsaidan Shah, Talagang, Lawa and Chakwal. The city itself is divided into five Union councils: and Chakawal district is divided into 68 union councils.
